The Range in McKinney is built for two things beyond a great afternoon on the lanes: hosting your group, and being the range you come back to.
On the event side, we host up to two hundred guests across two classrooms and our retail area, with eighteen live-fire lanes, a 300° simulator, a catering prep area, BYOB service, and a team that runs the entire day. On the membership side, four levels cover the different ways people want to use the facility, from a single shooter to a household to a business that brings people through regularly.
This guide covers both, along with OA Defense Range Days on September 19 and 20 and Ladies Day, which runs every Tuesday.
Everything this guide covers:

A Premium Venue For Groups Of Every Kind
The Range in McKinney is a full event venue, and we treat it that way.
Groups here get an activity, not a table. Your guests are hands-on the entire time, with certified Range Safety Officers keeping everyone safe in a facility built for exactly this. The day works at any experience level, which means you never have to build a guest list around it.
We accommodate up to two hundred guests. There are two dedicated classroom spaces, partial or full use of our retail area, eighteen live-fire lanes, and a 300° simulator that runs up to five people through the same scenario at once. Our staff handles the safety briefing, lane assignments, instruction, and timing, so whoever organized the event gets to take part in it.
Chuck brought a bachelor party through and wrote this in his review: "A huge thank you to owner Thom and the incredible staff, Marissa, Tyler, Matt, and Jonah, for going above and beyond to make our group feel welcome and ensure everyone had an amazing time. Their professionalism, knowledge, and friendly attitudes made the entire experience smooth, safe, and a lot of fun."
What A Group Day Here Includes
Send us a date, a headcount, and what you would like the day to include.
We build the schedule from there. A group day can be assembled from any combination of the following: a classroom safety briefing and fundamentals session led by a certified instructor, live-fire lane time, a session in the 300° simulator, group lessons, a private range rental, and reserved space for food and drinks. Larger groups are sequenced through the lanes, the simulator, and the reserved space in rotations so the whole party stays engaged.
Nobody in your group needs to bring anything. Rental firearms and ammunition are available on site, every shooter receives a free target, and eye and ear protection is available. The instruction is built to work at any level, from a first-time shooter to someone who shoots weekly.
If you have a date in mind, send it early so we can confirm availability. We are closed Mondays, and our hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 6 pm. If your event needs a start time outside of that, ask. It is a conversation, not a policy.
The Spaces, The Catering Setup, And The Logistics
The event spaces are the Texas Ranger Classroom, the Lone Star Classroom, and partial or full use of our retail area. They can be combined depending on the size and shape of your group, and total facility capacity is two hundred guests.
Catering is straightforward. There is a catering prep area (no cooking) with running water, and a catering menu is available on request. Bring your own caterer or use ours. Tables and chairs are available, and we accommodate vendor load-in for anyone bringing in decor, a photographer, or their own setup.
We are a BYOB facility and provide TABC-licensed bartenders when needed. One rule applies here as it does at any range: nobody who has been drinking goes into the live-fire bays. We recommend scheduling the range and simulator portion first, and the reception portion after, and our team builds the schedule that way.
The practical details that come up most: parking is on site, and the facility is climate-controlled throughout, so weather never factors into your plans.
Use the event scheduling form on our

A Planning Checklist For Your Group Event
Everything we need from you, and everything worth deciding before you send it.
- Your date: We are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 6 pm, and we are closed Mondays. Send your preferred date early so we can confirm availability. If you need a start time outside our posted hours, ask.
- Your headcount: Total facility capacity is two hundred guests. Your number determines which spaces we reserve and how we sequence the day.
- Your space: The Texas Ranger Classroom, the Lone Star Classroom, partial or full use of our retail area, or a combination. Tell us if you need the room set for presentation, dining, or both.
- Your activities: Any combination of live-fire lane time, the 300° simulator, group lessons with a certified instructor, and a private range rental.
- Your food and drink plan: Bring your own caterer or use ours from the menu available on request. There is a catering prep area with running water. We are BYOB and can supply a TABC-licensed bartender.
- Your vendors: Photographers, decor, and outside vendors are welcome, and we accommodate load-in. Let us know in advance.
- Your guests' ages: Guests must be eighteen to shoot unaccompanied. Children are welcome from age eight when supervised by a parent or legal guardian who has signed a waiver for them. Every shooter signs a waiver.
Send it all to events@trmckinney.com or through the Event Scheduling Form on our Shooting Range Events page, and we will come back with a plan built specifically around you and your group.
The 300° Simulator: A Centerpiece For Any Group
The simulator is one of the most unique activities we can build a group day around.
It is a five-screen system with a 300-degree field of view, and up to five people take part in the same scenario at once. There is no live ammunition, which means it is available to every guest in your party regardless of experience, and it takes the noise out of the equation entirely.
Scenario types cover marksmanship, competition, judgment, and precision shooting in military and law enforcement scenarios, and the system playlist can be built to fit your group’s interest. The simulator is available hourly, half-day, or full-day. It is also the only system of its kind available to civilians in Texas and the surrounding states.
Chuck's review named it directly: "One of the highlights of the day was the simulator, which was absolutely awesome! It added a unique and exciting element to the event and was a big hit with everyone in our group." Angela, who booked a birthday for four, split her day between the two: "We did an hour at the indoor range, and we did an hour simulator. Great experience and will be back!"
The firearms available in the simulator are the GLOCK 17 GEN 4, the SIG P320 M17, and the KAC M4. Simulator sessions are non-refundable, and they can be rescheduled or issued as store credit.
Book it on its own or as part of a group day on our Video Shooting Simulator page.
Good To Know Before You Come In
A few facility policies, stated up front so nothing catches your group by surprise.
- Waivers: Everyone who enters the live-fire range or simulator signs one. A parent or legal guardian signs for any minor.
- Ages: You must be eighteen to shoot unaccompanied. Children are welcome from age eight when directly supervised by a parent or legal guardian. Handgun rentals require you to be twenty-one unless you hold an LTC, and rifle rentals require you to be eighteen.
- Rental ammunition: All rental firearms use ammunition purchased at The Range in McKinney. Personal ammunition is not permitted in rental firearms, and rental firearms are for use on our range only.
- Range commands: Range Safety Officers are in the shooting bay at all times, and their commands are to be followed immediately. Drawing from a holster requires demonstrating proficiency to an RSO first, and the same applies to rapid fire.
- Closing: Last Mag is called ten minutes before closing time.
- Eye and ear protection: Is required (NO ear pods) and available on site if you did not bring your own.
None of this is complicated, and our staff walks every group through it during the briefing.
Corporate Outings And Team Building
We host corporate groups of every size, and the facility is set up to make the day easy on whoever is organizing it.
A corporate day here can include a classroom briefing, rotations through the lanes and the simulator, and reserved space for food, drinks, or the business portion of the agenda. We host employee appreciation days, client entertainment, holiday parties, quarterly meetings with an afternoon in the range and/or simulator, and straight team-building outings.
The practical advantages are worth stating plainly. The entire facility is indoor and climate-controlled, so the calendar and the forecast are never in conflict. It scales from a small team to a large one. Attendees need no equipment and no prior experience, which means the invitation is simple to send. And our staff runs the operational side, so the organizer participates instead of managing.
If your company brings people through regularly, ask about a Corporate membership. More on that below.
Email events@trmckinney.com with your date and headcount, or start on the Shooting Range Events page.
Birthdays, Bachelor And Bachelorette Parties, And Private Celebrations
The private side of our calendar covers a wide mix: birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, anniversaries, graduations, family reunions, church and community groups, and organizations of every kind looking for a hosted group experience.
Angela booked a birthday here for a group of four and wrote: "Thom helped me schedule everything online and helped answer all of my questions, Michelle helped us out at the front desk, and Matt guided us through the entire thing. Matt was an awesome help guiding us in every way!"
Children are welcome from age eight when supervised by a parent or legal guardian who has signed a waiver for them, so family celebrations work here as well. You must be eighteen to shoot unaccompanied, and we keep youth firearms on hand.
Tell us the occasion and the headcount at events@trmckinney.com, and we will build the day around it.
OA Defense Range Days: September 19 And 20
Mark the weekend. OA Defense Range Days come to The Range in McKinney on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20.
OA Defense is an American firearms manufacturer, and for two days their product line will be here to put hands on. Guests can reserve a complimentary VIP range session with ammunition included. Industry vendors and special guests will be on site, and there will be event-only firearm specials across the weekend. To make the day a little sweeter for all of our VIPs, Alsies Ice Cream Truck will be on site September 19th from 12-2 pm.
It is a rare chance to shoot a firearm you have read about, at no cost, in a clean and professionally run environment with our staff handling the details.
VIP session availability is limited, so plan early. Guests must be eighteen or older, and standard eligibility, identification, waiver, safety, and purchasing requirements apply.
The Memberships: Four Ways To Save
There are four membership levels, and they cover four different ways to use the facility.
- Individual: includes unlimited range time with no lane fees, plus twelve guest passes, and discounts on training, rentals, cleanings, and FFL transfers. Monthly or yearly payment is available.
- Family: extends the same benefits to a household, so everyone shoots without separate lane fees. Children are welcome from age eight with a parent or guardian, and we keep youth firearms on hand.
- Range Buddy: covers two people who shoot together, whether that is two coworkers, two neighbors, a mother and daughter, or two friends.
- Silver: is designed for retirees sixty-five and older, with unlimited range time Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.
First responders, law enforcement, veterans, and active military receive twenty percent off lane fees and twenty percent off Individual and Family memberships. Bring your ID. It is a small thank-you for the work you do.
We are open to the public, and a membership is never required for anything: range time, training, the gun store, the gunsmith, or FFL transfers.
Ladies Day Tuesdays
Every Tuesday, women receive half off lane fees and free rentals at The Range in McKinney. No membership, no sign-up, and no experience necessary. We are open Tuesdays from 10 am to 7 pm.
The free rental means you do not need to own a firearm to take part, and our rental list covers pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns. Ammunition for rental firearms is purchased here. The Range Safety Officer in the range means guidance is built into the visit. It runs every Tuesday, all year.
It runs every Tuesday, all year. It is a standing part of how this facility operates, not a seasonal promotion.
Ladies Day is one of the ways The Range serves women who shoot. Thom and Julie Beyer built this facility to be welcoming by design, spotless and professionally run, and genuinely family-friendly, where a brand-new shooter receives the same respect as a longtime competitor.
See the details on our Women's Shooting and Ladies Day page, or come in on a Tuesday.
Training That Meets You Where You Are
Training is available at every level, and it pairs naturally with both a group visit and a membership.
- NSSF First Shots is a structured introduction to safe handling, grip, stance, sight picture, and the vocabulary of a range.
- Private lessons pair you one-on-one with a certified instructor who builds the session around your skill set and goals, which makes it the most focused training we offer. Our instructors are certified, and some are former military or law enforcement.
- Youth training runs through NSSF’s First Shots program and private lessons.
- Safety team training serves churches, schools, and businesses with people responsible for the safety of others.
- Texas Guardian Program certifies Texas educators and school district employees who hold a valid Texas LTC.
- Texas License to Carry classes cover carry law, firearm safety and handling, and your classroom and live-fire qualification, held in our private climate-controlled classrooms and indoor range. Texas allows constitutional carry for legally eligible adults twenty-one and older, and the license still offers real advantages: recognition in a number of other states, carry in some additional locations, and a faster purchase process at the counter.
Jason took the LTC course with his wife and wrote about their instructor, Michael: "What was anticipated to be a six-hour course felt considerably shorter, approximately two hours, due to the interactive nature of the instruction."
Book any of it on our Firearm Training and Classes page, or call (972) 330-4415.
The Range Itself: 18 Lanes, Fresh Air, And Safety First
All of it happens in a facility built for comfort and serious practice.
Eighteen climate-controlled lanes across two bays, nine each, at twenty-five yards, rated for pistol and rifle, with wireless turning target carriers that support qualification courses and reactive drills alike.
Our air system never recirculates. It pulls in clean outdoor air and pushes it through the range, so the air stays fresh from your first shot to your last. Range Safety Officers are on the floor at all times. Drawing from a holster or shooting at speed requires demonstrating proficiency to an RSO first. Last Mag is called ten minutes before we close.
If you do not own a firearm, the rental list runs from compact carry pistols and full-size handguns to revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, plus youth options. Ammunition for rentals is purchased here.
Everything Else Under One Roof
Beyond the event spaces and the lanes, the facility covers the rest of what a firearm owner needs, and members receive discounted pricing on selected retail items, rentals, and 2 free FFL transfers for Individual and Family members.
- The gun store and retail area: We are a licensed firearms dealer with a stocked retail area carrying firearms, ammunition, and accessories, plus an online store that is open around the clock. Our team can help you find the right fit, and in many cases you can rent a firearm on the range to try before you buy. We handle the purchase and required background check on-site.
- The on-site gunsmith: Diagnosis, hand cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, expedited cleaning, trigger work, sight and optic installation, grip and handguard work, and a long list of other modifications, across handguns, rifles, and shotguns. No appointment is needed. Drop your firearm at the gunsmith counter anytime during business hours. Members receive discounted cleanings.
- FFL transfers: If you buy a firearm online or at auction, we complete the transfer here. Members and LTC holders receive discounted transfer pricing.
- Rentals: Pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, plus youth options, with eye and ear protection available. Ammunition for rental firearms is purchased here. Members receive discounted rental pricing.
Everything happens in one visit if you want it to: shop the retail area, drop a firearm with the gunsmith, complete a transfer, take a lesson, and get range time in a single trip.

The Community We Are Building
A range can be a facility, or it can be a place. We wanted the second thing, and most of what we do is in service of it.
The events bring whole groups in at once and give us a chance to host them properly. The memberships are there for anyone who wants to make this their range. Ladies Day runs every Tuesday. Training runs at every level. All of it points the same direction, which is a facility people are glad to be in.
We hold a 4.5 -star rating across more than 260 Google reviews as of this writing, and the ones we reread are the ones that name people. Chuck thanked Thom, Marissa, Tyler, Matt, and Jonah by name. Angela thanked Tom, Michelle, and Matt. Hunter B. put it this way: "After 7 or 8 times here, I can't recommend enough. The staff is so nice. Hands down best indoor range in DFW."
