Air quality matters when you are shooting indoors. The air handling system at The Range in McKinney never recirculates air. The system pulls in clean, fresh outdoor air and pushes it through the range, providing more fresh air than many other indoor ranges. You can spend an hour at the line without feeling the air get heavy.


The target system is a wireless 360-degree turning target retrieval system, which means you can program your target to do more than sit still at 7 yards. It supports basic qualification courses as well as reactive and decision-based drills.

Firearm Rentals at The Range in McKinney

If you do not own a firearm, want to try something new, or try before you buy, we have a large rental list at our McKinney shooting range. Rentals are $15 per hour for pistols and revolvers and $25 per hour for rifles and shotguns. All rentals must use ammunition purchased at The Range in McKinney.



Our rental list includes options for shooters of all levels for everyday carry, home defense, and recreational shooting. You will find firearms from Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Walther, Ruger, Springfield, Canik, Taurus, Bushmaster, Colt, Zastava, and more. We also keep youth rifles in 22 caliber for younger shooters.

Firearms Training and License to Carry Prep

Training is a core part of what we do. The Range in McKinney offers multi-level training for new and intermediate shooters, as well as those who want to build confidence with their daily carry. We also support outside instructors who meet our insurance and qualification. requirements, which means more class options for the community.

The Range in McKinney is Thom and Julie Beyer's vision of a great gun range with a family-friendly environment and excellent training, where anyone can learn how to shoot and learn how to do it safely. Thom has loved the sport of shooting since he was 8 years old, when he learned to shoot a 22 on his family's property.


In 2014, Thom started visiting firearm stores in the area. He found that customer service was often poor and the facilities were not always pleasant. He and Julie traveled the country visiting ranges, talking to owners, and learning what worked. The Range in McKinney is the result of that work, a range designed to make everyone feel at home, with great customer service and a family-friendly environment where men, women, and families can feel comfortable and enjoy the sport of shooting.

    For years, Thom took friends out to that same property and taught them how to shoot and how to do it safely. In fact, one of his “students” became a firearms instructor for the US Air Force — she was only 19 at the time. 


    In 2014, Thom started visiting firearm stores in the area and found that most of the salespeople were not listening to the client, customer service was terrible, and the general up-keep of the businesses was not great. When he visited some of the local ranges, he realized even in Texas, in the 21st century, indoor ranges weren’t always a pleasant experience. Even though you were inside, you weren’t guaranteed the facility had working air conditioning, and most had no filtration to clean the air. The worst part was the existing marketing methods for ranges focused on a narrow, male clientele and lacked professional-looking ads and broad-based marketing materials.



    We have traveled around the country visiting ranges and learning from their owners. We wanted to build a different kind of practice range -- a range designed to make everyone feel at home. A range with great customer service and a family friendly environment where men, women, and families interested in firearm instruction, safety and proficiency could feel comfortable and learn about, practice and enjoy the sport of shooting.

  • Do I need a membership to shoot at The Range in McKinney?

    No. The Range in McKinney is open to the public. Memberships are optional and offer unlimited range time for Individual, Family, and Buddy memberships. You can shoot more and pay less.

  • What is the minimum age to shoot at the range?

    Children must be a minimum of 8 years old and supervised at all times by a parent or legal guardian who has signed a waiver for the minor child. Range staff reserves the right to determine if a child is capable of safely shooting.

  • Do you rent guns at the range?

    Yes. We have a large rental list of pistols, revolvers, shotguns, and rifles. Pistol rentals are $15 per hour, and rifle rentals are $25 per hour. All rentals must use ammunition purchased from The Range in McKinney.

  • What kind of lanes do you have?

    Our indoor range has 18 twenty-five-yard lanes. The lanes are rated for pistol and rifle use.

  • Is the range climate-controlled?

    Yes. The range is climate-controlled and uses a fresh air system that is never recirculated. The system pulls clean, fresh outdoor air into the range.

  • Can I bring my own firearm and ammunition?

    Yes, you can bring your own firearm and your own ammo. There are some prohibited types of ammunition (such as steel core, steel jacketed, aluminum cased, green tip, armor piercing, incendiary, tracers, home reloads, and shotgun shells other than slugs). All ammunition is subject to inspection. If you are not sure, ask at the counter.

  • Do you offer training and classes?
